Set by race control
01

The Championship

  • Pilot GP — a test run to make sure everything runs smoothly.
  • 6 Fridays, 28 Aug – 2 Oct 2026 · 4:30–7:30pm · at Altona.
  • Free to enter — no cost to race.
  • Play a minimum of 4 of the 6 Fridays to be eligible.
  • Your best 4 weekly scores count; the two lowest are dropped.
  • Highest cumulative score after 6 weeks is the Champion.
  • Prizes: $100 gift card (1st) · $50 gift card (2nd).

Friday Night Format

  • 8 races across 8 randomly selected courses each Friday.
  • The week's 8 courses are set and announced in advance.
  • Race in groups of 4, with CPU drivers filling the grid.
  • Every group races the same 8 courses on the same settings.
  • Finishing positions earn Mario Kart points, summed into your weekly score.

Race Settings

  • Mario Kart 8 · 150cc · Hard CPU.
  • 8 races on 8 predetermined courses.
  • No driving-assist functions.
  • All characters, vehicles, wheels and gliders available.
  • Pick any character and vehicle combo you like.

Groups & Times

  • Groups of 4 are assigned at the start of each week.
  • Groups and approximate race times announced in advance.
  • Race night runs 4:30–7:30pm; each group gets a 30–45 min window.
  • Need a different slot? Ask the organisers before racing.
  • Groups rotate — you won't be with the same four each week.

ELO Rating

  • Every racer carries an ELO, tracked separately from the title race.
  • It moves on your results against other players.
  • Beating a higher-rated racer earns more than beating a lower one.
  • ELO does not decide the champion — points do.
  • Tracked across all six weeks.

Attendance & Late Entry

  • You don't have to make every Friday.
  • A maximum of two weekly scores can be dropped.
  • Miss more than two Fridays and you can't qualify.
  • Late entry allowed up to and including Week 3.
  • Late entrants still need 4 Fridays to qualify.

Fair Play

  • No driving assists.
  • No intentional interference beyond normal gameplay.
  • No changing game settings mid-competition without approval.
  • The organisers' decision is final in any dispute.

Technical Issues

  • Organisers decide whether an interrupted race is replayed.
  • Recorded results stand unless materially affected by a fault.
  • Report any issue immediately — not after results are in.

Sportsmanship

  • It's a competition — but it's also Friday night at the bar.
  • Celebrate the wins, accept the blue shells, don't be a sore loser.
  • Most importantly: have fun. 🏁🍻

Standard Mario Kart 8 scoring — your finishing position each race, summed across the night for your weekly score.
